We had a two hour flight today from Corsica to Paris which always sounds like it will make for a quick travel day. However, with all the airport transfers, a slight flight delay and waiting around at the terminal, we were traveling from 10am until 5:30pm. Kyle and I got up early to pack for the flight and tidy up the Pinarello house. The owners actually live nearby in a small cottage and rent the house out in the high season. They came over to do a walk through which made us a little nervous, but thankfully we got the all clear.
While listening to Harry Potter 4 in the car en route to the airport, Ollie said in earnest, “oooh this is a very exciting part for me!” It was the part where Harry is in a memory and wizards were calling out people who were supporters of Voldemort. He was left on the edge of his seat, though, as the drive was only 40 minutes which frustrated him greatly.
The kids begged to sit with Bri on the flight and she agreed to sit between them. She quickly learned that once hooked up to their iPads, seat mate is a chill task however once the food, drink and bathroom requests started coming in, the duties become much more demanding.
In the Uber to the apartment in Paris and on seeing the Eiffel Tower Ollie goes, “I can finally check that off my bucket list!” Bri then asked what else is on his bucket list. He replied, “Playing in the NBA on the Celtics and in the NFL on the Giants.” He’s never played organized football but we love his big dreams.
On seeing all the attention Ollie was getting and questions we were asking him, Lenny goes, “I hate the Eiffel Tower!!” Then Ollie goes, “I bet you the guys that built the Eiffel Tower are going to haunt you now!”
Our apartment is in 5th arrondissement or the Latin Quarter. It is railroad style but like double the length of any railroad apartment I’ve ever seen. It also has a weird set up with 2 different shower stalls in the bathroom and two toilet closets next to one another in the hallway. Nothing weird enough to be deal breakers, though, as the location seems great and plenty of room for our crew.
We headed out toward Jardin de Luxembourg in search of dinner. Everyone was hungry from a day of cobbled together plane and car snacks so we stopped at the first bistro that had room for 6. We ended up at a more touristy place right near Jardin de Luxembourg so the food was mid at best. We played another game of 6 person Uno and my hot streak continued– think this made 3 in a row which caused some upset amongst the boys. Ollie was keen to continue his rap battling with Bri while Lenny competed for her attention with requests to tell jokes. Lenny’s jokes, however, were more of threats. “If you don’t play with me, I’m going to trap you on the ceiling!” Then he would laugh maniacally.
