Today was a lazy day! The boys and I were the laziest because Kayleen woke up and went to a 9:30AM yoga class while we lounged around the apartment. It was grey and drizzly out so we started some home school instead of meeting Kayleen by the beach after her class.
The square by our apartment had a little flea market that Kayleen noticed on her way back. There was a stand where a woman was selling her boys old Lego sets so Kayleen took the boys to each pick one out. Lenny choose one with two cars and Ollie got a larger plane that looks like a bat. We disassembled them at the apartment and I worked with Lenny to rebuild one of his cars while Ollie was able to build the plane by himself.
After lounging around the apartment for the afternoon we headed out to the Les Casetas festival along the water at Côte des Basques. It took us a long time to find parking and we eventually parked a 20 minute walk away. The festival is a welcome kickoff to the Summer season and isn’t huge but attracts a lot of people on a Saturday night. There was live music and a line of tents selling different food and drinks. All with the backdrop of the ocean and countless surfers out in the waves.
We walked the length of the festival to check out all the tents. The seating was limited and we couldn’t find any until we got to one end of the festival and sat on the seawall. The boys are getting into trying to flip a coin for heads or tails so we played that for a while. I flipped the coin while Kayleen, Ollie, and Lenny guessed heads or tails. The game was who could get 10 correct first and it ended with Ollie (10), Lenny (8), and Kayleen (8).
Kayleen spotted a little turf area in front of the festival neon sign and we snagged it for a more comfortable place to hangout. We could hear the band from there, playing mostly American songs. None of us were very hungry but I got us some sangria and a charcuterie board to snack on as we played Uno. Without the spot to sit we wouldn’t have lasted much longer at the festival but it turned out to be a nice evening and we stayed for almost 2 hours, till 9PM.

We started the trek back to our car and watched the sun start to fade behind the Atlantic. I was expecting Lenny to request a ride so I was mentally prepared for the challenge with the help of the sangria. We made it home after a failed attempt to get gas, we are almost on empty… We had a Viennetta ice cream cake in the freezer at home for desert that Kayleen scooped up at the store out of childhood nostalgia. I don’t recall ever having it before but the name sounds familiar and everyone enjoyed it very much. Then off to bed for another post 10PM bedtime.
