Hello kids club!!! Our first full day in Mauritius and after breakfast the boys are off to the resort’s kids club, and we are really hoping they have a good time. The breakfast is a nice buffet with everything you could want. Including more pickles for Ollie, one of which Kayleen snapped a photo as it was falling out of his mouth…
Once we dropped the boys off at the kids club Kayleen and I got a chance to go to the gym which was right next to the kids club. The boys first activity was going to a nearby pond to feed the ducks and go fishing. They were both excited for this and when we checked in on them at lunch they both said they caught a rainbow fish. We are still waiting on the pictures from the teachers to verify.
We picked them up to have lunch with us but as soon as we sat down Lenny requested to go back and have lunch at the kids club. Ollie was easily convinced to join Lenny so I walked them back. Inside the kids club they have a buffet of every food a kid could want. Being in Morocco shortly is going to be quite a shock for them, but for today Kayleen and I got a meal in peace.
This place is filled with critters that Kayleen and I got to hunt for on the beach without the boys constant distraction since we planned to pick them up from the kids club at 3PM. We came across a variety of land and sea animals. I think my favorite was the hermit crab or the disappearing fish.
We went to pick up the boys at 3PM and they were still having fun. Lenny was getting his face painted and Ollie wanted to show us his new trampoline tricks. Lenny choose to get painted as a Zebra so that he would “become faster then Ollie.” They both grabbed a piece of the cake they helped bake on the way out and we were off to the beach to look for some critters with them. They seemed to have a great day but the only downside was they got nailed, mostly Lenny, by quite a few mosquitos.
We were able to locate the hermit crab and cowrie snail again with the boys. Lenny was more interested in locating and trying to open any fallen coconuts he came across. We smashed one we found floating in the ocean open on a rock on the beach to his delight.
Kayleen went to a yoga class and I played with the boys in the pool. There are a lot of activities included at the hotel so we are trying to take advantage of all of them since it was a pricier place to stay.
We played in the pool for almost 90 minutes doing all sorts of games the boys made up, usually involving one or both of them attacking me. The most creative was that I was a murder hornet and they were honey bees who had to create a bee-ball to try and stop me from destroying their nest. Lenny also found another tiny fallen coconut that he worked into most of the games as treasure or their baby bees they needed to defend.
Right before Kayleen came back Lenny informed me that he was going to do a flip into the pool. He proceeded to do a way more impressive flip then I ever imagined he could, especially for someone who can’t swim. Ollie then followed suit and we caught a few on video when Kayleen got back. Lenny is also very close to being able to swim, he just needs to practice his breathing.
We went back to shower and then headed to dinner. The resort has quite a few restaurants and tonight we were at Annabella’s which is the same place breakfast is each morning. It was a fancy buffet that probably only I got my moneys worth at given how pricey it was. Food is expensive but we are not really sure if that applies to all of Mauritius or just the fancy resort spots. Nothing beats South Africa!
The booking of things at the hotel is odd. We have to message our personal concierge, Varshita, on WhatsApp to tell her what we want and she books it. There are a few exceptions but mostly everything goes through Varshita. We think they do it to make things seem fancy because it would be much easier, and simpler, to do it all yourself through an app on your phone. The resort has an app but it’s all just informational things.
The boys wanted to try a glow in the dark treasure hunt at the kids club that went from 7:30 to 8:30. We dropped them off but when we returned it had not gone well. They had gotten into a fight with each other and were sitting there waiting for us inside when we arrived. Both exhausted and with a few more bug bites.
We all headed back to the room but, Lenny and I took a different route to race Kayleen and Ollie. It ended up being much longer so we lost the race badly. Then it was time for bed for everyone.
