Our final full day at the resort in Mauritius! We decided to try to change it up a bit and venture outside of the resort to see some sites since it is unlikely we ever return to Mauritius given its distance from the US. We had our normal breakfast and Lenny thought he was being funny taking half of a giant baguette from the buffet. We scolded him for this but it ended up being really useful, but he didn’t know it would be!

After breakfast the hotel helped us secure a taxi for a few hours starting at 10AM. We headed to an area called Chamarel. The towns we drove past all seem very much like what you would find on a Caribbean Island and the road reminded us of a slightly less mountainous St.Lucia. Needless to say carsickness was front of mind but the ride was only 25 minutes.

We were not stopping to see a town but the natural beauty of the island, a waterfall and the seven colored earth geopark. We had just seen Victoria Falls so we were way more interested in the geopark but the waterfall was just next door to it. They were both in the same government run park that we needed to pay to enter. There was a good deal of construction as the government is looking to add more shops and restaurants in the park to capitalize on the tourist traffic.

It was hot so luckily there was not much walking or hiking involved at all, especially after the car ride. The boys were mildly interested at best in the waterfall and colored dirt as they complained of the heat. Pieces of Lenny’s giant baguette kept them full. Luckily there were also some tortoises nearby, from babies to full grown giant ones, that captured their attention. Then it was time for some ice cream. The little shop in the park had Mini Melts, think Dip n Dots. They were a nice treat for everyone in the shade.

We were planning to head back to the resort, but our driver suggested we go see a popular viewpoint since it was only 5 minutes away. We agreed and made it there to take a few nice pictures. The road is a tight two lane road and there is no parking for the viewpoint so all the cars just block one side of the road which made things a bit chaotic but we got our photo and headed back to the resort for lunch.

We headed to the pool with the plans to have lunch and play. We requested the remaining mahi-mahi that we had discussed the day before but the chef said he needed more notice. I guess a day wasn’t enough…. We just ordered something else and moved on.

The boys were not having a good day listening to much of anything and I was getting quite frustrated, especially with Ollie. When their lunch came they refused to get out of the pool. I eventually dragged them out and feed them their spaghetti and french fries. There was a bite or two of spaghetti left which they refused and I made them each record a video saying they would not ask for one snack until dinner. Shockingly they did not ask for a snack but I doubt it had anything to do with the videos.

I sat at the edge of the pool with them but refused to go in and play with them at all because of how bad they had listened all day. Ollie keep trying to lure me into a batman story him and Lenny had cooked up and were acting out. He cared that I was ignoring them but Lenny only slightly did.

Lenny eventually melted down when we told him he wasn’t going to drive the paddle boats today. Kayleen had asked him 3 times if he wanted to go over the course of 30 minutes and he kept saying he wasn’t sure or maybe later. We eventually told him he was not going at all today and we aren’t on his schedule. He did not care for that at all and started to throw a tantrum. Kayleen headed back to the room for a nap with him. Ollie and I followed shortly after as I told Ollie I still wasn’t going to play with him because of his listening issues.

After everyone had a rest/quite time we headed to dinner at a new restaurant. This one was on the golf course side of the resort so we got an oversized golf cart shuttle from reception. Lenny was thrilled to get to sit in front with the driver and be the co-pilot.

Dinner was nice and the boys were happy to tell us this is where they went fishing and had their golf lesson with the kids club. We headed back after dinner for bed.

Kayleen and I are ready to get back to a city where we can walk around and do some different things. Also we have been in one room with the boys since Zimbabwe so having an apartment with multiple rooms and a kitchen will be very welcome. London here we come!
